If you think about satire, it's like the worst thing to exist in our spoken language. Oh, I'm gonna state a clear and precise sentence, but due to a slight difference in the tonation of my words, some never told inside joke, or some muscle movements in my face, I actually meant the exact opposite of what I said!As if that wasn't hard, now I'll make that exact statement but on social media with not even a facial expression or tone indicator. This is just wrong

@ErikUden I mean, I will also get angry when you don't recognize what I'm *clearly* doing, why.

@adriano I do the same thing. Like, was my performance not good enough? But why would I be mad, it's confusing as hell, and I say that as a neurotypical.

@ErikUden some people think it's cringe but I am a strong defender of /s at the end of sarcastic sentences.

@ErikUden For me it is mostly like in social media. I can read facial expressions only partly, not always "read between the lines", and I cannot read eyes. #ActuallyAutistic Emojis and /s are quite useful.

@ErikUden also if you do it wrong the entire internet will forever know you as an unforgivably racist sexist asshole! 🎉

@ErikUden So many trip and fall flat on their face over spoken vs text. Been watching it happen for over 40 years.

@ErikUden satire is a language's immune system, if you ask me. It subverts complacency, reminds us that language is never unambiguous. It's the linguistic funhouse mirror that magnifies, distorts, points out the faults of that which it satirizes. It encourages mental flexibility. To hate satire is to hate nuance, I feel. I instead declare satire a sign of a healthy culture, a good thing.

@ErikUden @adriano yep, satire is an art form, and needs practice. Bad satire does not invalidate itTo me, what separates satire from insult is that satire aims to defuse with its distortions, not harm. Disarm, not wound. And it's tricky.
