I guess I'll be a crusader for the pope then. How the turn tables.

@ErikUden It's good thinking from the pope, but the problem is, very few who call themselves Marxists have any idea what Marx actually said and equally very few who call themselves Christians are actually living by what Christ preached.Dialogue is good, but between whom?

@ErikUden "And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:12–13Jesus was a darn commie

I've been looking into this — The “Red Pope”, as some people have begun calling Pope Francis, made a similar statement a few days ago. This article by AP News raised far more questions than answers!First of all, the Pope says:“China for me is an illusion, in the sense that I want to visit China. A great country. I admire China. I respect China. It’s a country with a millennial culture, with a capacity for dialogue and understanding that goes beyond other systems of democracy. I think China is a promise and a hope for the church” These were meetings to renew some sort of 2018 agreement about the contentious issue of bishop nominations. Apparently China wants a share of the pope’s exclusive right to name the successors of the original Apostles. The government of China wants to nominate bishops themselves, in the name of national sovereignty. What will this new agreement lead to?The meeting also aimed to unite the country’s estimated 12 million Catholics, who were divided into an official, state-recognized church and an underground church that stayed loyal to Rome. How is this the first time I heard of an „underground church”? This sounds like such a fascinating story, just in case some indie film makers are out there looking for a story...

@ErikUden as an excat, I don't see Francis as any different from other popes / catholic clergy in general -- catholics in general have perfected the art of saying something that a leftist would agree with (e.g. 'the us presidential election is between the lesser of two evils') which is merely blanketing the same ol' stuff they've always had (turns out 'lesser of two evils' is migrants vs. abortions instead of, say, genocide)

@ErikUden Thank you for bringing visibility to this. I think it's unfortunate that Cardinal Zen, the most visible leader of the underground church, has been increasingly critical of Pope Francis precisely because of the latter's overtures toward the state-run church of China. It's a pretty messy situation, imo.
