@countcol We wanted an Information Age, but building the data age required only technological tools and no sociological effort, much easier, so we did that instead.

@countcol @argv_minus_one @howard Our inability to get along with everyone on THIS planet is the reason we don't have warp drive.

@countcol We skipped the Comprehension Age which should always come first so people are trained to effectively observe, analyze, evaluate, verify, question, challenge, organize, absorb, and share Information.

@brianstorms @countcol In "Nexus", or at least in an interview I saw regarding the book, Yuval Harari suggests that every new information age has an initial chaotic era before society figures out the insitutions required to handle the new technology. Among the first bestsellers with the new printing press were witch-hunting manuals.I imagine another category of early print bestsellers was porn, just like with VHS and the internet.

@countcol Maybe, as with money, the information is being sucked up by intellectual billionaires.

It is one of the most prosecuted and banned books in history.Kudos to John Cleland, you made a mark!Makes me think of "Life of Brian", which was considered too blasphemous to show in Norway, and marketed in Sweden as so funny it's banned in Norway. 😁@TimWardCam @brianstorms @countcol

@countcol I think it's more that the information age is informing us about how many people are uninformed. Before the information age, we could only see it through personal acquaintances.

@joaocosta I used to believe that, but at this point I think the evidence is in that our communication methods and patterns are not just showing how ignorant and misinformed people are, they're actively making it worse.@countcol

@brianstorms @clacke @countcol the pornographers are always at the forefront of any viable new technology. Which is why their lack of interest in crypto currency is telling.

@countcol A good education is sorta like high altitude mountain climbing: the higher you get, the horizon seems to get farther and father away.I felt a lot dumber on graduation day than I did when I was admitted....

@tuban_muzuru @countcol There is a joy in realizing the infinity of the unknown, and becoming comfortable with not needing to know.

@Lane @countcol When I was a little guy, my parents taught me to read very early. My first year of school was second grade. I was given a tour of the school library, an astonishing sight - so many books! The librarian told me something I never forgot: "You don't need to know everything - just ask a librarian and they'll help you find what you want to know."
