Today my mom was angry, cause her lesbian coworker is getting a baby on her tax money. Yeah. Sometimes old people just baffle me. It doesn't even cost that much to get impregnated by frozen semen.In the same discussion she was fine with giving 30k euros to people who get kids. I kinda noped out of that conversation after that. Lesbians and gays can get kids if they want in my opinion, and it doesn't even cost shit in case of lesbian couples where one of them carries the baby to term. (Though adoption is an option too).If people were getting 30k a pop for a kid, there would be issues with women being made literal baby machines in abusive households (especially oppressed immigrated women). I personally would want to open that can of worms (whoops, our babies die, gib new money). Better would be to get 30k one time for getting a baby, not per baby. And both mother and father are banned from getting it again.

@SuperDicq Finland. The monetary benefits are much less than the cost of children, so it is super rare that women are forced to get tons of kids.

@susie@blob.cat Yeah of course here in the Netherlands too. Children still cost more than child benefits to obviously discourage baby factories, but still it is MY TAX MONEY GOING TO STRAIGHT PEOPLE

@DoubleD @SuperDicq Because otherwise the politicians take in more immigration which is vastly more expensive in the long run (and brings other issues). Sadly countries are built upon pyramid schemes and old practices that expect an infinite growth.

@taylan They would be adopting. The "cost" of adoption varies hugely and can't be directly compared to the price of sperm+doctor's visit. Some adoption schemes are very wrong morally, for example human trafficking rings practically stealing babies and pretending they are "helping". Happens often enough to be an issue when western couples look to shop for a kid from a third world country.I do not know how the adoption culture works in Finland regarding to Finnish babies. To me it sounds very very small scale, because technically "anyone" giving birth here is able to take care of their babies and birthing death rate is very low. I do imagine there are couple teen pregnancies and such, but those would just get abortion instead. So given the already low birth rate, adopting a Finnish born baby sounds unlikely/need uncomfortably long waiting period.

@susie Ah OK. I thought you might be thinking of commercial surrogacy, which is how some gay male couples get kids nowadays (also rich straight couples) and it's honestly evil. Basically women being used as commercial baby factories.

@taylan Yeah, I don't think surrogate mothers even exist here or if it is legal. However when talking about adoption overseas, where is the proof the babies aren't "manufactured"? Sounds like a good "get rich quick" scheme to force poor women first get sex you get paid for and then force them to carry a baby to term and sell it to some clueless western couple. They can do some menial labour as well to make fast fashion products or whatever for a few extra pennies.Sure there probably are morally good adoption "companies", but it just stinks of human trafficking to me. Babies can't spill the beans about their upbringing like teens/older kids can.
