I recall when FB began it was the opposite. Then they add that tracking feature that would let everyone know where you were at based on your phone's location. And then every fucking narcissist was using it thinking that everyone wanted to know their location.

But... When I was young, everyone's name, address and phone number was in big book that they gave away for free. With only a name and a city you could call the operator and get a phone number.In the newspaper people published marriage and engagement announcements, often with pictures and telling where the couple worked. Also who was in the hospital, or on vacation, birth and death announcements. All kinds of family and social events were published with pictures and the people in the events plainly identified. People loved having their kids in the newspaper for their sports or other accomplishments.It was a wide open world. Probably a strange concept the gen-z.
