:: There is only one cat who lives many lives. They are numbered nine by nine, times, nine by nine, times, nine by nine ... Repeat this process nine times over. That many lives. And for all those lives there is but one cat. The cat lives in no particular order the life of a caracal, then next the life of a pampered Persian, then next that menace, smilodon, then next back to the lap. The cat remembers everything. It's always the same cat. 1/

It's always the same cat. But the cat is not always the same. Like all creatures, the cat changes with the endless passing years. And the cat has had some dark moods, that lasted for lifetimes. And joyful moods that lasted just as long. The cat remembers when humankind was but a child on this earth. (and delicious) The cat remembers, from future lives of cats yet to come, what it will be like after we are gone. 2/

Sometimes, in the dark, the cat forgets, that this is not that time to come. The terrible apes remain. It's not yet time for that unanticipated sadness (and freedom) that came (will come) in the future days of no more couches, or blankets, or laps. 81^9 = 1.50094635×10^17 3/3

@futurebird "The Egg" from a cat's point of view. Nice.

@futurebird https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/369785-one-of-the-major-problems-encountered-in-time-travel-is"One of the major problems encountered in time travel is not that of becoming your own father or mother. There is no problem in becoming your own father or mother that a broad-minded and well-adjusted family can't cope with...The major problem is simply one of grammar."

@futurebird does this imply the existence of time reversed, antimatter cats, somewhere out there in the cosmos? A la the “one electron universe”?

@futurebird Okay, BOTEC:There are roughly 6x10^8 cats on earth today, according to The Google. Feral cats have short lives, housecats have long ones. For ease of calculation, say the overall average lifespan is 10 years. Assuming the population is stable, that implies 6x10^7 lives per year. So 1.5x10^17 lives would require 2.5x10^9 years. This implies that humanity has less than 2.5 billion years left. I'd better start working on my bucket list.

@futurebird I am the cat who walks through walls, and all places are alike to me.
