There are so many tiny bugs in the folds of this broccoli I don't even know if I should eat it. It's impossible to wash them out because there are so many and they're so tiny. If they're harmless, I don't mind eating them but IDK if I should. Maybe it is fine - maybe not. Maybe it's normal to eat tiny herbivorous insects in some quantity. I don't know.I'm not going to use pesticide so companion plants would be good for the future.

Found some photos online. Apparently it's quite common and not really that bad for you. People say you soak them in salty water before cooking, and the bugs leave and float to the surface. Might be salvagable.

@CatLord Wtf, of course don't eat them. A couple of those look like baby ticks at first glance. Throw them out and make a complaint at the store they were bought at.

@CatLord Congrats on growing, but you need some kind of safe pesticide solution.

@SrbijaStronk i doubt they are ticks - these are just photos from online but the ones on mine look similar, and we don't have ticks in melbourne.

They do not fall off when you boil or steam the broccoli?

@Jens_Rasmussen Some did but most didn't - no. apparently you can soak it before cooking and they leave, themselves, but i didn't so this batch might be wasted as i really can't be arsed irrigating under every fold of the bloody thing

@CatLord I fucking hate bugs, unless they are of the sea variety. I couldn't eat them.

@CatLord It is never okay to consume insects. Your digestive system is not tuned for it, nor is your immune system. Find a solution to get rid of them entirely.

@BrokenSword Well yeah but they're tiny though. Wouldn't there just be tiny bugs on things that we ate historically as well? I don't know.

@CatLord put it in water with lots of salt, let it soak for 10 minutes, rinse twice. The salt makes the bugs leave.
