I've seen a few people saying things like "but didn't everyone think Hillary did really well in her debate with Trump but then she lost?"I understand this impulse and this race is not in the bag for anyone. There is a lot of work to do. But, this debate was nothing like the 2016 debate. Trump was much less unhinged. After the debate his supporters and many moderates thought that he did well. This time Trump supporters are complaining about the moderators.1/

Harris has not come out of this debate thinking that she's going to win. She continues to run as the underdog. In the 2016 debate Trump made personal attacks on Hillary. For mostly BS reasons, but also a few legitimate reasons a lot of people had strong negative feelings about Hillary. So Trump's nasty attacks on her didn't bother people as much.Trump's nasty attacks this time were on ... America. Nothing he says makes sense unless you watch Fox all day. 2/

When challenged on his bogus lie about immigrants eating people's pets Trump indignantly replied that he saw it on TV. At that moment it hit me: Trump is just another old man who watches too much Fox news and spends too much time online. He's not a crafty manipulator of racial hatred ... he gets his information from the same place as his fans. That may be why he feels so authentic to them. It was something of a sad moment of exposure for the reality star. 3/3

@futurebird it's ridiculous. They're upset because a public figure, once upon a time holding the highest office in the land, was openly fact checked by moderators the way anyone might be fact checked when interviewing for a role in public office. Typical conservative entitlement.

@futurebird @sunguramy But that’s precisely one of the things people mocked him for in 2015. “Nobody” thought he could actually win, and the observation that he thinks TV shows are literal reality was one big reason why.
