My husband has discovered regional lemon/lime/grapefruit sodas and we've been trying them all. I'm still in mourning about the demise of 50/50. Today he said "You know? I think I like Ting better than Squirt." I said "You just lost Pennsylvania." (Do you have a favorite citrus pop?)

lemon/lime/grapefruit sodas:Sprite: Allegedly "lemon/lime" flavored this sweetened water dominates the market.50/50: A grapefruit soda once made in Milwaukee, it came to dominate the midwest.7-up: Often confused with ginger-ale it is slightly less bland than Sprite, but not as popular. Ting: A Jamaican soda also popular in NYC. has pulp. Amazing.Squirt: created in 1938 in Phoenix this grapefruit soda, is well balanced.

@futurebird Pepsi Cola replaced Sierra Mist with Starry a year or two ago. Before trying it, we were on a Sprite Zero kick, but now, weāve fully switched to Starry Zero. It has more of a citrus flavor than Sprite, and itās sweeter.

@futurebird you need to try San Pellegrino's fizzy grapefruit. My doctor doesn't allow me to have grapefruit because of the drugs I'm on but I am willing to risk CERTAIN DEATH for an occasional can of that stuff.

@futurebird Definitely Fresca. Back in the days when sodas had real sugar, my dad had a shop beside a laundromat. The laundromat had a soda machine with a thermostat turned down so low that the sodas (in glass bottles) were frozen slush. In hot weather, the best thing in the world was a frozen Fresca.

@futurebird Kroger's Big K brand of grapefruit citrus soda, in the zero sugar variant, is a decent alternative to grapefruit Fresca.Yes, Fresca has other flavors beyond grapefruit. Maybe you've not seen one because grocery shelf space is a cold, hard business, and the drinks aisle is a viciously contested battlefield.

@futurebird Today Iām more likely to get a ginger ale than a citrus soda. I like 7up. I used to drink Fresca in college because it made a good mixer. I kind of remember Faygo having a citrus soda I liked as a kid but I never see it here in Texas.

@futurebird Iāve never been a big consumer of traditional soft drinks. The sugar always turned me off. But over the past few years while trying to curb my evening beer habit, ahem, I turned to seltzer waters. I do enjoy a a plain Polar seltzer with a lemon or lime squeezed in for good measure. And the stock flavored varieties are nice too.

@futurebird Iāve never been much of a soda drinker, both because theyāre too sweet/chemically sweet, and because I donāt really like the carbonation.Iām not big on citrus drinks, more of a fruit punch kinda drinker, but Iāve been getting into sodas like Olipop, Culture Pop, Poppi, and recently had the Sour Blueberry by United Sodas of America and quite liked it. Theyāre far fewer calories than the normal HFCS/sugared sodas while not being cloyingly sweet, either.

@futurebird Grapefruit soda is very refreshing, and I loved 50/50. Faygo has 60/40 Grapefruit Lime, which is similar and almost a substitute.I've also tried Jarritos Grapefruit which is pretty good.My current favorite is Crush Grapefruit, which I can't normally get but found when visiting Albuquerque.

@futurebird I have never tried Faygo 60/40, but you should.I appreciate how a Detroit soda has a name that sounds like a automotive fluid. You gotta get the grapefruit to lemon-lime ratio exactly on the mark or it'll gum up the carburator!
