       @Wyliesau @PNS can't run your own Telegram or Signal Messenger server to talk to their networks because they're proprietary & centralized walled gates. XMPP or Matrix servers can be self-hosted and both the servers and clients are open source.

       Signal now has state department agents running its board, only a matter of time if it's not already compromised. xmpp with OMEMO is solid for content encryption, but leaks metadata. May be fine for your threat model. Tor to encrypted webmail is always as option.
