I'm desperately seeking information about this chip.It is a custom #Psion RS232 IC used in the Series 3c, codenamed CONDOR.If you were involved in the development of the 3c or knew someone who worked for Psion around 1994-1997 who might have been involved, please let me know. We want to emulate this chip in #MAME so that it can be added to the existing Psion SIBO hardware #emulation.#retrocomputing #vintagecomputing #digipres

@thelastpsion Are there enough broken 3c:s to be able to decap the chip? With the node size at that time this should be quite accessible today.

@thelastpsion I don't know if @lproven still has contact with Andrew Orlowski, but that guy wrote an interesting history of Psion complete with interviews, and may have contacts for some of the chip designers. I know he spoke to Mark Gretton who designed some of the ASICs. Seems Mark went to TomTom after Psion.

@alyn @lproven I spoke to Mark some years back. He was polite, but insisted that he didn't have any old records from that time.I haven't spoken to Andrew Orlowski, though.

@troed Possibly... They're not as common as the 3a, but they come up fairly regularly on eBay.

@thelastpsion @alyn I don't think Andrew is on here but he's active on Twitter. I chatted with him recently.

@thelastpsion everyone uses a copy of a 8250 variant, it must be?

@RueNahcMohr The main chip in these Psion machines is a custom ASIC with a V30H core, plus they use their own proprietary 2-wire protocol (similar to I2C). There's a good chance they're using that protocol when talking to this chip.

@thelastpsion if its an "i2c" uart, why does it have so many pins?Even if its serial, I'd bet the register layout would be almost the same as an 8250/16550.

@thelastpsion Hello, Temic stands for telefunken microelectronic. Z20029 is most probably the batch number of the Nantes factory (Fr) and 9709 is the date code. This factory no longer exists. All that remains at this place is a microchip design center.

@thelastpsion @troed If you can find a broken one I can probably decap and image it.

@thelastpsion I spent my first paid archaeological excavation season in 1992 operating an EDM total station laser surveyor by means of a Psion! Don't believe I've seen one since.

@zl2tod I've spoken to most of them already. I'm kind of hoping that someone lower down in the company might have kept archives that the execs didn't.

@thelastpsion couldn't you just bit bang it to figure out a chunk of the state machine?
