@aralI don't think this is entirely true. There are plenty of uber-billionaires with huge amounts of control, and they're not household names. Their companies aren't household names (though the dozens of related, allegedly competing brands they own might be). You wouldn't be able to pick them out of a line up.You really know him from an offshoot of celebrity culture and the need for personality cult. Which is also the same in other authoritarian regimes.
