We read what is happening in Brazil with the banning of VPNS and think "That is a 3rd world country, that would never happen to us".We completely forget that 1 year ago we would have said the same if anyone would suggest that the gov. would freeze bank accounts of people who contributes to a political protest. It can and it will if we don't stop it.

@kpeace I hope that the recent catastrophe in france and the UK is driving home that authoritarianism can come quickly. Anyone who still remembers corona should know that. I do fear however, that the public, like always, will continue to sleep soundly.

@h4890 @kpeace The public rationalizes its decisions based on what makes the individual feel good. It's easier to assume that the authoritarianism is well-intentioned than it is to admit that the human experiment has gone off the rails.

@amerika @kpeace True. I would add for the "modern man"... what feels good right now. Modern man does not seem to be able to think about what is good long term.

@h4890 @kpeace Of course not; he's individualistic. The individuals comes first and foremost before anything else, including time.

@amerika @kpeace Actually, for me, the common man is the essence of the collectivist, trying to appear individualist. He follows the fashions, the overton window, is anxious about what his neighbours think, yet is trying to come off as living the "life". To me, perhaps the most individualistic people are the ones far outside the overton window, hermits, strange people, monks.
