OK... hear me out... a standard rice cooker... BUT when it's done and it plays the little "rice is ready" tune it also has a feature so when you open the lid it emits a golden light and angelic voices sing "AH! AH!" like it's a treasure chest. Don't judge too quickly. Really THINK about it!

@futurebird Rig up a system like this chap did but instead of sending an alert, trigger a WiFi-enabled audio player. Or do send an alert but play an audio file on your phone paired to the rice maker system. Add a WiFi-enabled light above the rice maker and trigger it as well.I'd probably use IFTTT myself instead of going to a Raspberry Pi device.https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2024/03/receive-push-notifications-from-your-rice-cooker/

@futurebird Long ago - mid 1980s - there was a scanner company named Palintir (not like the present-day spy-on-people company).Their scanners had a self test mode that played the Ride of the Valkyries on the stepper motors - it was a great rendition, many minutes long, with a rising crescendo.

@futurebird @DavidM_yeg noo I love our little "thunk" rice cooker! It has NO computer chips whatsoever because it's programmed with physics. That "thunk" sound is a little metal alloy plate beneath the pot, precisely calibrated to reach it's Curie point at >100C so that the magnetic switch can't hold it when the water is all boiled away š¤
