idea: I start a new account (using a photo of me with a fake moustache as an avatar) and troll r/MechanicalKeyboards by telling them to rate my new compact keyboards... but they're not mechanical keyboards, I'm just yanking keyboards out of old 486 laptops and sticking them in a box to make them look like a mechanical compact abomination. (the extra joke is that they'd find this keyboard too big and say it has too many keys)

@luana that's how I treat keyboards! but I am apparently in the minority among people who care about keyboards

@foone Goddddd I really really miss the HomePgUpPgDnEndRight Arrow Keycolumn on the right side of 90s Toshibas and Compaqs (probably some others, but those are the ones I saw that layout on most frequently). It was so much easier for my writing sensibilities than the later endless attempts at squeezing the desktop orientation of these keys onto laptop keyboards using either tiny keys or Fn + arrow keys. Even modern compact keyboards with a similar column aren't usually in that order.

@catsalad @foone @luana It's not quite the Space Cadet, but here's the Boston, a 120% keyboard and in stock.I bought one twoish years back from that website, and received my product in a reasonable timeframe.

@n_dimension honestly I've used a bunch of different keyboards and I frankly don't really care about all that stuff.I'm more about layout and n-key-rollover. those are the important parts.

@foone I hate modern keyboards, at least the mainstream ones."Here is a crappy $6 keyboard. Here is a $70 keyboard that feels exactly like the $6 keyboard but it has media buttons you will never use and RGB lights."

@foone Keyboards are a HUMAN-machine interface. What's important is the human on one end, how it feels and how productive you are.I grew up on old IBM reed keyboards, hence anything different feels like sponge. It's a matter of preference.

@foone show your hands or drop some Lego bricks beside it so people can evaluate the amazing size.

@foone I miss old laptop keyboards so much! I wish there was just one option or vendor to get amazing keyboards like we used to. Proper keys with 3d depth.

@foone I love full size keyboards, hell I want one on those IBM Model F122 keyboards!. For a portable keyboard, I use a Keychron K-4, which is nearly a full size keyboard, but just compact enough to fit in my bag. On my Desktop, I have a Unicomp Model M keyboard, and for troubleshooting old computers, I have an old ThinkPad keyboard and trackpad combo thing I picked out of a scrap bin
