@realman543 Group jump just makes every ship start charging at the same time, which means small ships land first. Instead of making the big ships charge first and take off just before everyone else, so they can take aggro.

@Zergling_man Also if you want to know if it's built in the old engine just get more than 1000 units on the screen at once. IIRC the old game was built using a 32 bit engine and as a result had difficulty handling large numbers of units.

I assume virtual instances but I get weird shit with checking process numbers on BSD I think and it's a similar situation who knows.I'm not terribly knowledgeable here so if it says the same I'm not sure I can help further. Although did you check the VIRT memory? Could be your memory is being hogged by programs that refuse to let it go until the kernel forces them to.

@Zergling_man I've heard varying definitions. So IDK what's correct here. But when I was looking into lowering my memory footprint years ago I came across a few threads that mentioned something about virtual memory being a process' "remembered memory" for lack of a better term. Basically, the process remembered the max it was allocated once, and then tells the kernel to hang onto that memory in case it reaches that level again.Could be wrong though.

@realman543 It's just that I'm idling at fucking 11gb, whereas if I total up all the hogs it 'only' comes out to like 3gb, maybe half a gig more for system stuff and there's a huge gap there.

@Zergling_man Could be swappiness. I remembering digging into the guts of swappiness and tweaking it and finding a relatively large reduction in memory.However it sounds like you have the same problem I have. Phantom memory hogs. I have never found an adequate solution to the problem.

@Lyx @realman543 You can never have enough crystal.I have a feeling the game expects me to build more ships sooner, because ships chew metal while tech chews crystal.But I'm 100% econ player, and in Sins 1 you have to choose between econ and popcap, as many RTS' do.In Sins 2 you no longer make that choice; tax is based on income instead of popcap, so it just straight up punishes econ.
