@futurebird it actually is like one of more well-researched things in macroeconomics: due to the marginal savings rate, if you want to improve a market economy, especially one in recession, the most efficient way is direct subsidies or tax cuts to the poorest. As income goes up, such subsidies become less efficient because more is put into savings and less is actually put back into the economy. You may have already known that, but it’s one of my pet peeves when conservatives lie about economics.Also, this has been researched, practiced, and proven effective as policy since like…Keynes in 30s and 40s. Like, yeah, some nuance there but it is literally basic economics: tax the rich because otherwise they hoard it or waste it and the economy suffers in a capitalist market.

@futurebird Taxing was invented to wage and win wars… and it’s a very old monetary concept. But the difference between then and now is; Gold and silver was at least worth its value in time and weight… Considering it took millions of years for the Earth to make it, and 1000’s of man hours to retrieve it…. Now, they just run down to the BEP and print some numbers on a piece of papery linen, and call it money. Oddly enough, a paper plate holds more value in weight! Tax reform how?

@futurebird amen. A big source for my schadenfreude is that the horse L Ron bet on is a flailing one-trick pony whose tricks no longer bite on the opposition. Forbes and Bloomberg have had multiple articles questioning Musk's ability to keep X without triggering a decline in the Tesla stock by 5% or more. Managers at Barclay have lost 40% compensation because cofinancing this was such a bad deal. When Wall street guys fail downwards because of him, you know he's in for helluva hangover.
