The US is weird in many ways... Oh fuck, I can't even use "weird" anymore because now, it's used for another weird American thing... So...Take two: The US is strange in many ways. I've studied the country in and out, formally, informally, academically, and more, I lived there, and I think I have a pretty good grasp of most of the wei... strange things from there.However, one thing I still don't get is those political "National Conventions" (both the RNC and the DNC).First, why are they even happening? What's their point? Apart from trying to make politics look like show business for one week every four years?Second, why do people actually watch and care about them?Anyone?#USPolitics

@DavidBHimself If you look at the ratings, it's fewer than 10% of the population that actually watches them. It basically is show business, although normally it is where the formal nomination of the candidates take place. Typically very little is learned by them and many lies are told. I think politicians think people are as enamoured with them as they are with themselves.

@DavidBHimself That is certainly true. The federal government has become so huge and so intrusive and strayed so far beyond the bounds set for it by our Constitution, that it inflates the stakes of every election so people look for things to bash on the other side.
