Have you ever wondered how many serial mice you can connect to one PC, or are you one of those boring "normal people"?

@foone I know firsthand that if you output a message on an USB UART immediately after plugging it in, that Windoze will think it's a serial mouse :D.

@foone Of course. I don’t think I’ve tried more than 2. Though I have used a USB mouse to fight XP interpreting the serial output of a broadcast audio mixer as a mouse. I lost. (Until I unplugged it)

@foone I’m saddened by all those that feel limited to just a couple serial ports. May I introduce the Digi SCSI Terminal Server, giving you an additional 8 serial ports off your SCSI bus. Of course, you can daisy chain 7 of them per bus. With a few dual port SCSI cards and a tall stack of cash, imagine the possibilities!https://www.artisantg.com/TestMeasurement/46497-2/Digi-STS-1008-SCSI-Terminal-ServerBack in the day I think I had a 16+ port version of this that I used for remote access to Sun and HP servers via their serial consoles.

@foone sometime in the early ‘80s made a football video game for arcades that had four trackballs, one for each player. I remember guys wearing themselves out spinning those things, as they were programmed for the least response ever. Xs chasing after the Os in the name of football. More video games should exhaust the players!

@foone The practical limit is three on an 80386 with 16550 uarts directly on the 8 bit ISA bus. Yes, Digi and others made some special boards that let you have 8 or more serial ports (all multiplexed on one IRQ) , but you needed special drivers. I ran 4 and had to share IRQs. I wrote my own serial driver and it wasn't good code and would occasionally lock up, requiring a reboot. But dang it was cool having 3 serial terminals multiplexed over one modem.
