Part of the reason some of these bully pretenders can't stand seeing Gus is because the concept of one of their kids being proud of them like that is unthinkable.Well, that and this whole cult of suppressing all nuance and compassion from male expression. Just days ago Waters was complaining about how Walz hugged his wife. "Men don't move like that."Excuse me... what? Can you imagine being a man and being terrified of ... let's see..."moving wrong"?

@oliphant Not to be prescriptive but that doesn't sound very manly man to me. Being torn up and worried about such things.

@futurebird There's a guy on TikTok who keeps a list of all the things women say about men that give them "the ick". It's a long list.Granted, it's very personal, but part of the larger problem of policing men's positive emotions.

@futurebird Walz moves like a teacher. A good teacher with decades of experience holding teenage attention.

@futurebird I saw that. He's a fast learner, too. The man does not appear to be easily cowed.

@futurebird me, lacking any context about who Waters is and what they said this in reply to (don't bother filling me in, I know enough to know they don't deserve the brain real estate): "isn't moving awkwardly a defining feature of white men?"

@futurebird There have been, and probably still are, high schools where swaying your hips when you walk or using your whole arm to carry books will get you name-called, harassed, and possibly beaten by other boys. So I can imagine being a boy and being terrified of “moving wrong”.It can take some men a lifetime to outgrow being bullies, and others a lifetime to outgrow having been bullied.
