What if:An Ian M. Banks themed Stardew Valley mod where you slowly discover you are in a shell planet under observation by The Culture, and (in typical Banks story fashion) try to get help from the powerful human aliens (who are responsible for the magic in the valley Junimos etc) to help you to solve a problem, but they are stubborn due to "Prime Directive" aloofness.

@futurebird Something that plopped into my head almost immediately after playing Stardew Valley for the first time: A similar theme, except in a world similar to that in Simon Stålenhag's two first artbooks (Tales from the Loop / Things from the Flood).Cozy, 1980s Scandinavia, except with weird technology and time-travelling dinosaurs.

@futurebird Again spoiler warning. Seriously don't read if you might watch the show. I'm spoiling the end.Another vaguely similar what if that might be interesting and also would fit really well is something like in the show Scrapped Princess where the aliens are intentionally keeping humans limited in tech and scope to prevent them from causing harm in the universe again after they've lost a war. Perhaps encouraging moving backwards in tech and development on purpose.

@depereo The whole thing with your grandpa and the candles, and the space capsules and monsters ... the odd blends of tech... it all feels very "Shell World" to me. Also, I think that the art style would work in a strange way. Can you imagine an Orbital Hub in that style?
