In the Netherlands one would rarly see a doggo without a hoomanWhen this does happen, often people start looking for the house or people where the dog belongsLike just a few min ago when I was biking back from the store, a dog ran across the street and a woman and me saw this so we started looking for it's home and hoomanAnd some time later we found someone yelling the dogs name so all good again!I kinda love this default "search behaviour" :blobhappy:

This is what happens with lost pets, imagine kids!Over here it's useual that (young) kids can go about where they want, within reason ofc but like walking/biking alone to school, walking through town or the city with guardiansKids have freedom here because we have decent trust in the people around usIt's kinda scary and insane to see how in some countries kids need to have eyes on them 24/7If that's the case, there is clearly something wrong

@stux Round here there shouldn't be loose dogs. If the owner isn't obvious maybe call the dog warden instead, to get it off the streets before it bites a child or causes a road accident or whatever it has in mind to do next. Dangerous things, dogs, which need to be kept under control. And that's apart from the more minor nuisances such as shitting all over the place.

@stux Same in Denmark ๐ Probably with some variation. When my children were 5, they could leave the house on their own. Not far, of course, but to the nearby playground. When they were 8, they bicycled to and from school alone (we live in a quiet area, fortunately). When they were 12, they could take the train to Copenhagen city (30 km away) on their own (not that they had to ๐). Always had someone waiting at home in case of problems, of course. And first times was always a big thing for them. But this is Denmark, where parents leave their babies outside cafes in their strollers ๐ (keeping an eye on them from within)

@stux it's great. We have an extra leash in the car for if we're in the woods and a lost dog shows up. Used it once for 15minutes when owned showed up

@stux when i was 8 years old, i flew from buffalo, new york, to peoria, illinois, changing planes in chicago, all without a "guardian"... my parents dropped me off at the buffalo airport, and my grandparents picked me up in peoria. my impression, these days, is that someone would probably be arrested for arranging something like that.
