Just called the only pharmacy in our town that’s offering COVID vaccines and confirmed that there’s basically no way to get one in Ireland right now unless you’re pregnant or immunocompromised.Because we all know only those folks can get long COVID.What’s amazing is that this isn’t all over the news. There seems to be no outcry about it. I guess folks are pretty chill about becoming long-term disabled here. God’s will and all that…*smh*#COVID #Ireland #publicPolicy #healthcare #muppets

@aral Sorry to hear that. In Catalonia, they're available at a few hospitals if you make an appointment and need one now, but the next gen vaccines will be fully rolled out alongside the winter flu jab to primary care centres starting Oct 1.

@aral Yup it's insane how in most places nowadays it's difficult or near-impossible to get covid shots. Here in Finland you cannot get the fourth shot unless you are in the risk-group.It's almost like they forgot how booster shots work :eyeroll:

@aral I've just mentioned that there's not much news about autumn rollout in the UK.I think even the NHS appointments for high risk people have stopped until autumn, perhaps pending updated vaccines for newer variants. I'm assuming GPs can still refer. I can get a private one, approx £90, I'm unlikely to be in the free NHS group, so I may do this later in the year when I get a flu vaccination. A lot of pharmacies advertise but don't have the vaccine in stock.

@aral Earlier this summer, I sought out a COVID booster vaccine in my US town. I had summer travel plans (flying to my mom's memorial) and wanted to up my immunity. I was turned down by three pharmacies. A fourth didn't even have boosters available. I do not meet the eligibility requirements. I am not immunocompromised (yet), and I am not 65+ years old. I have not heard of any COVID vaccine supply shortages in my area. All those vaccines sitting on a shelf that will be obsolete in a few weeks when the new vaccines become available. I could have received one of those vaccines before I traveled through 4 airports that were so crowded I don't think they even comply with fire department occupancy limits. Instead, I traveled with anxiety and limited immunity because some bureaucrat decided to impose arbitrary limits on vaccine access. I wore a good mask, didn't eat on any of my flights for fear of taking it off, and crossed my fingers. I got lucky and avoided COVID. My brother-in-law didn't mask and caught COVID on the way home. My younger sister and her husband caught COVID from the charitable act of giving friends a ride from the airport. In the US, no one is clamoring for COVID shots. Why not let those of us who face elevated risk of COVID exposure self-diagnose our personal vaccine needs?I will get the new COVID booster as soon as I can. #COVIDIsNotOver #MaskUp #COVIDVaccine
