Star Wars would be in a very different place if they’d doubled down on the twists from The Last Jedi and stuck with it. Appealing to the apparent “backlash” killed the momentum the sequel trilogy had with the younger fans, especially the energy of the Reylo crowd. The Empire Strikes Back had fan backlash too but they didn’t reel it back in, and look where that took Star Wars! They should have carried on with the trajectory and the world would have accepted it and Star Wars would’ve grown from it

@drmambobob I'm not much for The Discourse, but JJ Abrams is the most over0rate writer/director working right now.I agree withy you, Rian broke the whole thing open and set it free. JJ worked to glue it back to the old model and made it so much less than it could have been.

@cassandracorvid JJ's whole shtick is the 'mystery box' - so he's good at setting up and building hype but terrible at resolving them. Lost was his typical MO: set something up and bugger off, but with Star Wars, he had to resolve mysteries he had no idea how to resolve but threw out what Rian did with it.

@drmambobob He didn't have the imaginative or intellectual capacity to do it. Yeah, I'm just a retired engineer that has no idea how it's done, but Rian Johnson is just on a whole other level.

@cassandracorvid TLJ blew my mind. It was so way out of there for Star Wars but it made it way better.
