@Amelia@transfem.social Because its easy to use, most hostings support it, even free ones, and because other alternatives arent much better anyways.

@lamp@kitty.haus @Amelia@transfem.social I used Python with Falkon and Jinja once, but yes you need a dedicate server and you have to deal with a lot of stuff. With PHP you just write PHP with HTML and that's it, you don't even need a separate template engine because you can mix HTML and PHP easily.But I think the biggest selling point of using PHP is what I mentioned, every server has PHP. Even some free webhostings offer PHP. And since it's easy to use, it makes it very accessible even for not so techy people who might not be well versed in network programming.
