If there's one statement I find insufferable it's "Linux is just a kernel" as a rebuttal to anything.Firstly you're a moron, Linux is the colloquial term for the operating system, get over it already.Secondly, it's not actually a rebuttal to anything, it's just semantics.

@BrodieOnLinux I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself 🙃

@BrodieOnLinux 👍If people use Linux to mean the whole operating system and related packages, then that's totally a valid meaning of the term. People like to act like words can't change their meaning over time.

@BrodieOnLinux I tend to reply that to people who complain about their bad user experience with a Linux based OS: they've had a bad experience with a user environment, not a OS kernel.Plus, with your definition, Android is also Linux then.

@BrodieOnLinux It's still handy to broaden the awareness of those who have grown up completely unaware of this, accustomed to the colloquialism, unaware of it being a colloquialism.I tend go more the "it's the software libre, not the linux" route than the "just a kernel" & "GNU+Linux" route, since there are many tributaries and forks these days, blurring the picture from just gnu.org/philosophy being the sole whole spirit of the OS.Still... Linux is just a kernel. ;)Can Hurd or BSD too.
