I know people have a lot of gripes with Protonmail, but I've used them and ProtonVPN for years. I doubt ProtonVPN would save you if you did anything super illegal, but I'm not in that kinda business. They see who made a Tor connection the exact second they got a bomb threat email. a lot harder when talking about hidden services. I am not saying they don't have a trick to track connections to hidden services, but so far every case I've seen indicates to me that people made elementary mistakes that got them caught.

Mail is all a big pain in the ass. I got our IP blacklisted at one job trying to filter the company's client db for bad emails to get it under the bounce rate limit for MailChimp. All 100% legit opt-in activity, but people would put fake emails or not update abandoned ones.

You can verify emails on many servers by going through the first few steps of SMTP, then closing the connection. Just don't send a poisoned address to a server that reports to the blacklist system or you're fucked. It propagates to all the other servers within a few minutes.

proton.me is good, and they let me send like 1000 per day with my main mailbox, but i tried to open a second mail box to send marketing for different services and the IP blocked my email bot after sending like 300 emails (got 4 customers off it but NOOOOOO) so i got mad and went back to making my own. A lot of the OPSEC I employ is really more about keeping psychos acting on their own off my back. I run an instance, so if the feds really want to give me a house call all they have to do is subpoena the registrar or my host and they have all the info they need. I'm not exactly quiet about my contempt for the government or the establishment at large, but nothing I do is illegal.
