I'm really tempted by this 3D printed 8-shaft table loom design. The creator is charging for the design, which is only fair given how complex it is. Even when you factor in the cost of the design and the plastic and parts, it still comes in hundreds of dollars cheaper than a commercial 8-shaft table loom.https://hackaday.com/2024/08/17/simple-3d-printed-table-loom-for-complex-weavings/#3dprinting #weaving

@kyle I saw this earlier and think it is very cool in so many ways. But, Kyle, I think you are a very talented weaver and if you want to upgrade your loom, I think you should look into a high quality used loom, even if it a fixer-upper. 1/

@kyle My concerns with using this in anything other than novelty capacity are that 1-the weaving width is very narrow. 2-the shed is very small. 3- the distance between the reed in open position and breast beam is very short. 4-I worry about how much tension you can put on the warp. From the photos of the finished web, it looks like not enough to get a balanced weave. I think you will be frustrated with it if you are trying to use it seriously.2/

@CaramelizedShallots I was thinking of it more like a fun, portable loom, and a way to try small 8-harness patterns--something my rigid heddle loom can't do.

@kyle well then, let me dissuade you no further. It sounds like you will get enjoyment out of it. If you do try it out, I hope you will share your adventures with it.
