The piece is repeatedly disingenuous. Kirchick quotes ppl saying “antisemitism is marbled into the party” then says— “none of this is saying the party is antisemitic.” What?The purpose, of course, is to repeat “antisemitism” juxtaposed with “Democratic” to influence people.

Kirchick uses sleight of hand to imply that Shapiro lost out because he was Jewish — then says “to be sure, he was reported to clash with Harris in his interview” (paraphrase).The interview went poorly, but Kirchick has an agenda to push!!

More sleight of hand here. Kirchick’s ideological allies want to fuse support of Israel with being an American Jew — and you can see that in this section.He quotes a comment on “deep” commitment to Israel then just discards it: “deep or otherwise” - and then pivots to “Jewish”.

We have to do everything we can to reject antisemitism — reject holding the crimes of the Israeli government against American Jews. No Jewish person shd feel unsafe on campuses.But we cannot overlook the fact that this rightwing Israeli govt has committed horrible crimes.
