New blog post!In which I am writing how I am using a laptop without any graphical interface, just the command line. Featuring NeoVim, Tmux, and all that text goodness without any distractions.https://stfn.pl/blog/44-terminal-only-laptop/#blog #linux #debian #terminal

@chiwy @stfn mpv does work without a graphical interface. It doesn't support everything though, but for "common" videos it is enough. To make use of it --vo=drm should be enough.

@stfn Very cool! I have an eeePC that basically requires a similar set up due to how its screen has its colors inverted. It runs NetBSD because I got it because it was supposed to be compatible with FreeBSD, but neither FreeBSD or OpenBSD would work right, but NetBSD worked right with it.

@sinza Thanks! I used to have an eeePC back in 2012, but I sticked to Windows then, it was this period between my Linux episodes :)

@chiwy @stfn @mischievoustomato@rebased.taihou.website also, -vo drm works at the terminal for me.One problem with doing the terminal dance is that there's no nice way to change the volume. The volume keys are a non-starter.

@stfn I use i3 for a web browser to deal with the abomination of the present-day web.DEs are over-rated, for sure. I feel pity for those who are scared and uncomfortable on the command line.

@stfn I won't lie, I've been tempted lately to shove an ancient Windows version onto it because I've been enjoying programming on Windows so much, but I have so many other computers. I can put Windows on other things instead. :-)

@stfn I have done something similar with an ancient notebook with Intel c2d and 4GB RAM. Also started with #Debian, but found that not all #tui applications I wanted to install are in the repos so don't wanted to create a frankenmonster by adding repositories. Switched to #archlinux and #i3wm . This are apps I use at the moment#pyradio - internet radio#cmus - audio player#links - web browser (built from the source with graphics support)#mc - file manager#mutt - e-mail#irssi - IRC
