Microsoft Windows, once again letting you down?Give Ultramarine Linux a try. -- Wait -- Did you know you can try Linux without installing or touching Windows? You simply download the ISO, plug in a blank USB Drive, use Fedora Image Writer to burn the ISO, and boot from the USB.How do you boot from a USB? -- It is easy! 1 of 2#Windows #Microsoft

2 of 2On many computers, bringing up the boot menu is as simple as pressing either F9, F10, F11, or F12 when you first turn on your PC. Do not worry, as it does not hurt your computer if you press the wrong one. You simply try again, and when the boot menu comes up, select your USB, and press Enter. Simple. When done trying Linux, reboot without the USB Drive and Windows will boot normally. -- That is how you try Linux without installing.#Windows #Microsoft

@Linux Whatever happened to the days when you could run the Ubuntu installer from Windows, and it'd automatically repartition (or create a disk image, I don't quite remember) and add a BCD entry so that it didn't clobber the Windows bootloader? Is that still around?

@kitty @Linux It's real. It's Wubi, and UNetbootin also does this.Shockingly, both are under (somewhat) active development still!https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefihttps://github.com/unetbootin/unetbootin

@Kitty Not all PCs support EFI and Ubuntu is not nearly as user-friendly. In fact, in recent years with their push for Snaps without verifying developers, it became dangerous (having more fake and scam apps than Google or Microsoft).

@Linux Oh jeez... Snaps always sounded to me like they'd be easier for users, but I've always avoided them because I didn't like the premise, had no idea that was the landscape at the moment. I've started using Ubuntu more for work things just because it's free and going to be the most familiar to anybody in an enterprise environment next to RHEL, and I use it for my own mission critical servers because it's free and supports live-patching without any fancy configuration, but in both cases, I strip out a lot of their stuff like snapd and netplan...
