I am a people pleaser, so reviewers make me nervous.Three reviews on my article: 1) really interesting, you should explain more about X 2) don’t get it, you should change it to Y3) excellent, maybe add Z.Those valuable perpectives are worthy of their own article, except I lack the time. Would love to discuss some of those ideas with the reviewers, though. πŸ€”#academicchatter

@DanielleVossebeld I often wonder if the review process could have an actual real-time discussion. It'll save everyone's time and energy by being able to sit and talk through all the nuances and misunderstandings...

@drmambobob @DanielleVossebeld That kind of defeats the purpose of an article -- an article has to stand on its own because it can't come with a live conversation.

@drmambobob Yes, would be nice. Would also cost more time, I think. I would LOVE to discuss the article with reviewer 1 as it reflects the most knowledge on this topic and also because as you say, there is some misunderstanding I would like to discuss. I am going to give my article a more clear focus and address their concerns. Will be fine, but always makes me nervous. 😬

@heinragas @drmambobob @DanielleVossebeld It is true that the final article has to stand or fall on its own merits; but we're not talking about the final article here, but about the process of getting to it.

@mike @heinragas @DanielleVossebeld Yes - exactly this! Some of the back and forth I had to do through the peer review process could have been avoided with a very quick chat in real time.

@drmambobob @mike @heinragas True. And the reviews help with the article, also by them misunderstanding something or not understanding it at all. πŸ˜‚ So hopefully, it can stand on its own after this.
