Kaiser Permanente has a thing where if your coverage isn't active, you can't use their mobile app. You can use the website, which gives you access to all the same features, just less usefully on the go. Can you think of any reason they would do this that isn't just them being assholes?

because I've worked on sites before that have had to close temporarily because of federal budget problems. like, the site was still functional, but we had to upload a new version of it that said "we don't have the budget to run this site at the moment", despite hosting that message costing just as much as hosting the real site.I've also dealt with sites that were closed "after hours" and "on weekends".and even I can't imagine why kaiser does this.

besides incompetence, I mean. that one is a given. These are the same fuckers who misgender me when I'm getting my hormones (THEY ARE LITERALLY THE ONES WHO DIAGNOSED ME WITH TRANS) and are also the same ones who want to put me on weight loss drugs because I'm "too fat" for surgery. Said drugs have the same side-effects as my actual health condition.

these are the same fuckers who made me delay my CT scan from today to next month because they haven't updated their records quickly enough, and they canceled my coverage and haven't bothered reinstating it yet.next month of course means they have a whole new months worth of incompetence to cancel my account again.

@foone I’ve also struggled with “covered by Kaiser but now divorced and kid is covered by her Kaiser plan and I can’t read any of his documents because they recognize my account exists and I’m his parent but won’t let me do anything with this “dead” account”.It’s very dumbly implemented.

@foone the misgendering part reminded me that my hospital's online portal no longer allows you to change your gender identity or pronounsit used to in the past but the options are just Gone now. i only really know because i wanted to browse what options they had. i'm glad i'm alright with my docs knowing i'm nonbinary lmao (i don't think my chart says any preferred pronouns but some of them have used "they" in the notes which is nice of them)

@foone Kaiser tried to send my concussed girlfriend home after she totalled my car. she literally couldn't walk out of the hospital or order a ride on her phone and when i got there she was crying outside.so... don't be surprised if KP seems like a shithouse. it is
