@RL_Dane yeah, like I want a safe place for everyone to work. And really see some value in CoC documents... But I also have seen how godmode makes people insane on IRC, Wikipedia and Reddit. Would be interesting to require majority vote by active contributions of a project. Lundukes delivery is half the reason I follow him... He got me hooked back in the day with his Linux sucks series. But yeah I expect this to be handled with the subtlety of a hammer by most of the fediverse.

Lunduke now posts on locals about the crazy things FOSS devs end up doing but inevitably talked about how he is now a persona non grata in that sphere, and the project developers really don't like how he's asking questions to the point of word filtering his name or throwing off contributors for knowing.

Remember the guy who broke his Node package to protest not being paid? Remember "accidental" patches that broke stuff with Node/Linux? Remember devs sabotaging software to protest Russia, breaking it for everyone in the country who might not agree with the war there (but can't say it for obvious reasons)? Remember Matthew Garrett announcing he would stop Intel driver updates after Intel pulled ads from gamasutra (a formerly valuable gamedev site with some interesting articles that turned into a political soapbox) after a protest campaign?Stuff like that is one Crowdstrike tier incident away from wanting stability, like what Red Hat provides in the Linux world. RHEL is so popular because while it's dated and paywalled and has a old version of the kernel/software, it's stable and shielded from whatever Linux/FOSS devs do this month. I still hear about people using Ubuntu 18.04 for stuff in VMs because it has Python 2.7 as an example.Meanwhile on Windows you can install Python 2.7 easily or run VB6 software without having to do magic like pull in Billy Bob's random repo. As much as I like Linux, I am really against much of what is going on in that realm, either politically or not (see: removing scrollback).

Tumblr was proof the containment site model works, at least if you do the bare minimum to keep it going. The site had porn, tons of it, both IRL nudes people were posting but also notably tons and tons of art. The format sucked, sure, but compared to Twitter.com it had tags you could view for a single blog, but most importantly (and this is important), it allowed NSFW.Why do I say this? Well, when Tumblr was at it's peak the only art sites that explicitly allowed NSFW were furry porn sites that catered to a specific demographic (FA/IB/Weasyl/many more), Newgrounds (which has a rep as a SFW/NSFW flash game site that it's never shaken off), Twitter (which is Twitter), Pixiv (lol Japanese and the infamous bars), and that's about it. So naturally it had a lot of porn artists using the site and getting exposure they never could elsewhere. The Tumblr porn ban was fast, dramatic, and a massive shift to the internet ecosystem. Artists were already moving off the site as cracks were showing but the Tumblr porn ban was something even worse than Elon Musk taking over, because if Elon Musk taking over instilled a fear in the userbase the porn ban was like getting evicted by a shitty landlord. It's so bad that years later you can feel the aftershocks of it. That's what closing down a containment site did, they scattered into the next site they could use, and it's why Bluesky as an example has the userbase it does.

Probably the worst board for this as of now is /pol/ to the point it's become known as unusable, and you can see where I'm going with this.Anons from every edge of the site have been moving to different sites, some mainstream and camouflaging their past, but the majority are going to places like the fedi. I'm talking users from different boards, from the anime to the gaming to the tech board, along with the political ones.Similar or different problems hitting other sites online ranging from KF to SomethingAwful to Reddit (all the subreddit purges) are moving more and more people from the corners of the internet into the fedi, and that's a massive reason why the fedi has had a dramatic culture shift. When KF is down again or in another bout of drama, when SomethingAwful is trending away from it's shitposting origins even more, and when Reddit banned your favorite sub or has turned it into a "no fun allowed" zone, where can you go online?

I just liked the internet to be a fun mix of 'serious business' discussion with a peppering of shit posting and humor. So- my friends and I have a theory that the iPhone is what broke the Internet we grew up with and loved. It's what brought the "normies" online and ruined our nerdy little hobby. It took a few iterations to get there, sure, the original 2G was overpriced and was outclassed by a typical WinMo/BlackBerry phone. One year later Android came out, and also notably (as revealed via court docs) the original Android proto phone was a BlackBerry/WinMo style keyboard phone. When cheaper iPhones and Android phones came out, everyone could have one.

Yes, but 4chan has the illusion of being anonymous. It's different when an iFunny user posting similar stuff goes to jail because nobody expects them to be anonymous. Now combine that with the problems 4chan has with slid threads and low quality discussion and it's easy to see why users left.

I'm talking like the IT guy at WagieCorp or some hospital or school.They're bitter, burnt out, hate their job. They can't sit back and appreciate the tech or be excited for anything. It's not even a matter of "this CPU is faster than last year's" not being as visible as it formerly was (if you're not compiling bloated code or running emulators). They're updating the system to keep the thing going, or opening a ticket for Lenovo/Apple/Dell repair because another customer wore out the USB-C port.They complain how they can't enjoy anything or do anything they like anymore, because their entire day is to wake up, go to the cage to get money to maybe fund a wife and kids (or fund living in an apartment), and then come home to have a drink or smoke some weed or have some Newports. Then the cycle repeats.Then the adults around you tell you this is normal and act as if you're supposed to live to work. It's like a radio ad I heard for some luxury car, talking about how great it is to get stuck in traffic in their car with all the features it had and not a peasant's car. Everyone around me is telling me that I should look for a better job, and aside from all the jobs being for stuff like mainframe admins (lol), I'm asking myself is it worth it. I'm told I should find connections and yet when everyone around me IRL is miserable at the places I visit, when my online friends feel miserable from their Wal-Mart job sucking the life out of them, is it worth it? Is it worth it to make sure some HR person can have his specific laptop setup to fire off e-mails and yell at people on Teams?

Hey a former fellow FC poster. Yeah that was a dark day in April when I went to the site and received the White site unavailable screen of death. I wasn't yet banned from Telegram then and went to the FC Telegram group to receive the terrible news that the two founders Hizzy and Stu had shut the site down that day. I was on Frenschan as little as six hours previously and had no idea that what I was looking at was about to be lost forever.Yes just like many image boards cheese pizza posters and brigadiers were a constant problem for Frenschan. In the beginning plenty of jannies signed on to the project in order to make it what 4trans used to be but better but after nearly two years nearly all the moderators had left and most of the time it was only Hizzy and Stu moderating the whole site. Their family life was suffering from the constant internet use and it was getting overwhelming fighting off the illegal content posts. I don't blame them for shutting it down but the community that was lost there in the process I may never see again.

First of all you have to subtract the days off first, which ends up at about 240 working days of the year. Then you have to reduce that by the amount spent actually working (6.5 hours a day) so you end up with roughly 65 days of your year spent fully working. Or about 18% of your whole year would be doing work.Not including your sleep, that would be roughly 27% of your waking hours of the year doing work.
