So, kbin.social (and likely #kbin itself) is dead.I only joined the #fediverse in the "twitter migration" and *already* have 2 accounts that died on instances that were "flagships" but just disappeared (kbin & firefish). No blame or shame for the devs or anything. They tried which is much more than most of us.But whoever "decided" that true mobile identity isn't a priority for #activitypub / fediverse, probably fucked up.Why hasn't the fediverse grown more? Instances & immobile accounts!?

@maegul mobile (aka "nomadic") identity is supported by AcitivtyPub protocol. But not many projects tried to actually implement it: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/ef61/fep-ef61.md

And yes, I know there's #mbin 1. I'm talking about instances here, not platforms2. Word is that mbin's lead dev is supporting lunduke who's known for transphobia (see lemmy comments here: https://lemmy.ml/post/18935315/12861600)The situation may be more nuanced than that or incomplete, but it's there.

@silverpill My understanding is that that’s new-ish, so it’ll take time and commitment. Also, the nature of the fediverse is that being in the protocol doesn’t mean anything really. The actual protocol is what a critical mass of platforms implement consistently. With mastodon’s dominance, that basically means it’s whatever mastodon does. That each platform has to implement protocol compatibility on its own necessitates this.

@maegul FEP-ef61 is compatible with Mastodon, it doesn't create a separate network like alternative protocols do. Connection only breaks when data is moved from the original server to another one, but that's not different from what we have now. Within the sub-network of FEP-ef61 implementations, users can enjoy persistent identities.
