The Internet is "discussing" this picture and in many places one side is being insulted for the outfit the choose. Some people are also writing condescendingly: Both choices are completely fine (star-emoji).What most people fail to recognize is that none of the women really chose their outfit. They are forced to do their sport in outfits that are approved by the men of their patriarchal system. In one system you have to cover yourself, in the other you have to get naked to be able to take part.

@MissInformation i'm more concerned with egyptians using black colored clothing for long period of time in the sun during summer while also doing physical activity, overheating and lowering their performance, possibly getting a heatstroke too

@MissInformation For me, there are two extremes that clash, in a way of civilization clash, which is the case with regard to the respective calendars. The excesses of the west leading to its ruin. The democratic shortcomings of the east that brings incessantly the revolt ... The 2 are the excess and continue to sink in. But who imposes the outfits as you say ? Sex is a seller, so look for those who trade on the Olympics.

@elticoloco @MissInformation Same as with many topics.Anyone can choose to comply to his values and not be on this picture. You do compromises everyday. Are you 100% ok to fuel your car? To go to supermarket? To buy phone? To work all day for yoyr employer?Tell me then you are free when you don't want to see your chains.

@MissInformation What I like most about this photo are these women at the top of their game showing respect for each other. They don't seem to be concerned about each other's outfits. I'd imagine they are thinking about how to win, what they can learn from other top players and maybe trying to make a cool friend or two or three. Women manage to thrive within constrains what would we see without them?

@futurebird @MissInformation I enjoyed the camaraderie among the gymnasts, too. Warms my heart. This picture is worth 1000 words. Says so much.

@MissInformation Before we take offense on behalf of these women, it might be useful to reflect on the rules, which permit wide latitude in what they wear (as is obvious from the photo). And also that some women prefer bikinis for performance reasons. Not that I'd know, but several high-level players were interviewed in this article:https://wwd.com/pop-culture/celebrity-news/beach-volleyball-player-uniform-olympics-1236509653/(Honestly I was surprised by this, I had assumed bikinis would be very uncomfortable and only worn because they were required by the rules)

@plantarum @MissInformation yeah, I think in the last few years there's been some reform and people competing can choose what they'd likewhich means that yeah, some people like bikinis and some people like something with more coveragemaybe we could focus on their play, not on their outfits

@sarae > maybe we could focus on their play, not on their outfitsWorth noting who it is drawing attention to outfits instead of play, and assuming they are imposed, rather than being chosen as the link shared by @plantarum reveals.@plantarum @MissInformation

@futurebird @MissInformation I also would love a team to wear *both* uniforms at the same time. The bikini about the full-body suits. Take that, misogynists!

@futurebird @MissInformation there was an iran /germany photo like this a few years ago, the German was assumed free, and she said “I hate this outfit but I want to compete” and the iranian said “my partner doesn’t wear hijab, it’s certainly not her making me do it I chose”
