If you don’t feel the enthusiasm for Harris and Walz, that is your right. And also completely understandable. But 100% of the effort you make to blunt others’ enthusiasm about them between now and election day is effort spent to elect Trump. No path to viable leftist candidates runs through a right-wing victory in November. You can’t get there from here.

Recall that joke about climate change: don’t think about this as the hottest summer of the last hundred years—think of it as the coolest summer of the next hundred. The same applies to the political choice in front of us. If you hate Harris and Walz for falling short, you might think this is the worst slate of presidential candidates in your life so far. But if we get this wrong, this will likely be the best set of options you have in a presidential election for the rest of your life.

@maxleibman @JustOneMoreThing Beating Trump buys us all the chance to push our own “perfect” policy preferences via a new candidate in 2028, should Harris/Walz wind up disappointing in some way that’s important to you. Not beating Trump means burying that chance for 20-40 years, maybe more.

@maxleibman And on the other hand, Harris and Walz are both a bit more left-wing than recent presidential candidates from the Democratic party. They're quiet about it, but they're supporting more social benefits and more environmental protection.If they win, and the Democratic Party sees that lefty candidates can win, we might get even leftier candidates in the next few elections! 🙂
