I'm noticing a lot more artifacting on YouTube videos at 720p recently. I'm on Firefox with ad blocking so I don't know if that's got anything to do with it. I don't really mind, just finding it curious.

@ChrisWere I'm using LibreWolf, a fork of Firefox with an emphasis on privacy and security, and I haven't noticed a problem with YouTube...sorry 🤷Bonus with LibreWolf and YouTube...no adverts 👍https://librewolf.net/

@FediThing Yeah, the artifacting doesn't bother me, fortunately. You're right that they seem to have dropped any pretense about caring about the environment.

@ChrisWere I'm on Waterfox at 720p and haven't come across any yet (knock on wood?). Definitely noticing a lot more "this video is sponsored by" nonsense in the middle of them. It's not an accident that the most viewed part on these videos when hovering over the timeline is right when the sponsor stuff ends.I get that people want to get paid and would rather be making videos than be in the rat race, but these sponsor things are pushing me away from the platform.

@ChrisWere I'm noticing it as well in free tube and newpipe. Apple TV as well.

@ChrisWere I watch almost all videos at 1.5 or 2x speed and recently my YouTube frontend (cloudtube) just can't keep up. As if they're throttling, which also tracks with artifacting if they are throttling in a way you can reduce bitrate to compensate for.
