@feld@bikeshed.party Sure it looks cursed but this actually looks helpful.Like you can have 6 storage devices instead of 1? Hell yeah.

@soothspider wouldn't be too slow on a Pi5 actually, those can do 500MB/s now with the adapter to let you put in an NVME or whatever

@feld tbh this is the kind of thing that looks pretty nice to me given how few motherboards have a decent amount of sata ports yet easily have at least 1 M.2 slot (and then often a fuckton of USB ports, I always wonder why you'd put more than 4 rear ports and like 4 front-panel ports, people who need more can reach for PCIe cards). So in a way, heck yeah we got ~horizontal expansion boards. :D

@feld@bikeshed.party It's not cursed at all really, m.2 is just a different physical interface for the PCI-E bus. There are cases where you might want to use a SATA controller like this.

@feld I was 👉👈 this close to getting an m.2 ethernet card to solve a problem I thought was with a Realtek NIC on a Minisforum motherboard. Was something else, luckily.

@lanodan The KGPE-D16 has a decent amount of SATA ports and it also respects your freedom too.
