@n69n "say what you mean, mean what you say..." and sometimes appending "and prove it." is what i adapted from iso-9002.trying to fix things, even when asked, seems to be very unwelcome at times. @olena @actuallyautistic

@homelessjun> trying to fix things, even when asked, seems to be very unwelcome at timesYou are being substituted for a rubber duck;https://rubberduckdebugging.com/Like a rubber duck, a good listener understands that people usually know the fix for their own problem. There's just a bunch of words obscuring their view of it. If they can eject enough of these words through the mouth, the fix comes into view.(1/2)@n69n @olena @actuallyautistic @adhd

While neurodivergents can often do this by talking to ourselves (or cats, or rubber ducks), neurotypicals find it easier to eject the words when someone else is listening. Almost like the active listening creates a powerful vacuum, sucking the word clutter out through their mouth.Offering fixes that have not been explicitly requested, although well-intentioned, adds to the word clutter. Which is why it's seldom appreciated, even if the fix is a brilliant one.(2/2)
