One wild absurdity of the Electoral College is that if a state became so depopulated that it had only three residents left, two of them would be Senators, one would be a Congressional Representative, and their state would still get 3 Electoral College votes.

Somebody should make this movie. They would be among the three most powerful people in the country, whose main characteristic is stubbornness—they didn’t leave when everyone else did. They control boatloads of Federal grant money. People are constantly trying to assassinate them.

Silly, right? But our least populous state, Wyoming, has around 581,000 residents. Our most populous state, California, has around 39 million. Wyoming has 1.5% of California’s population and 3 electoral votes. California has 55 electoral votes.
