       @ZachWeinersmithWell eating sheep-butt is just a fringe-benefit-- when the animal concentrates all the fat in the tail, the meat is a fair bit leaner, and thus in the case of mutton, a good deal milder. The difference in flavour between European sheep (bred for wool) and middleastern fat-tail sheep (bred for eating) is very noticeable. There is a reason that many folks have an aversion to mutton; if all you've tasted is mutton from wool-sheep, you aren't wrong to avoid it...

       @ZachWeinersmith Wild sheep do produce some interesting curves on the rams, their bodies use both fat stores and wool thickness to emphasise large muscles and provoke interest from the ewes at a much lower energy cost than building large muscles.
