“Fixed” as in rigged, you fascist fuck? #VoteBlueGoddammit “And again, Christians: Get out and vote! Just this time. You won’t have to do it anymore! Four more years, you know what? It’ll be fixed, it’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore. In four years you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not gonna have to vote.” - Donald Trump, 26 July, 2024https://www.alternet.org/trump-supporters-vote/

@BrianJopek Personally? This comment about "fixed so good, you’re not gonna have to vote" along with Trump's comments about "not needing votes" are suggesting that he plans on saying that he won in November no matter what happens at the polls. And then what? Court nonsense? Mass violence? I feel like this isn't being taken seriously at all. I mean in light of his previous actions.

@futurebird @BrianJopek I read it like he’s promising his fans that he’ll challenge the results again, or that after he takes over in any which way, he’ll do the thing that both Vancy and Project 2025 have suggested, and that’s purging hundreds of thousands of government employees who didn’t swear utter fealty to him.

@BrianJopek I don't know maybe he's trying to project inevitability and demoralize everyone again?I don't think that will work. But these are horrible things to say. It sounds like he doesn't want to participate in an election. By all rights, since he places no value in the process unless he wins he shouldn't.

@futurebird @BrianJopek Yeah, I'd like to think the Olympics could be instructive here.Let's say Americans from across the political spectrum see USA win gold in a judged event – e.g. artistic gymnastics – and it's put to them that another country won. What are the chances that they'd all be united in saying, "no chance, we literally just watched the event play out"?And, I guess, in another event USA doesn't win, and it's put to them that they did…

@futurebird @neia @BrianJopek "wow, that sure was cryptic! Leopards are always saying wacky stuff though, it probably means that metaphorically, it will 'eat' your 'face,' as in 'consume = take in = perceive' your 'surface = external = outside = appearance,' making it will 'gaze upon your appearance! That's probably what it meant. Not literally eating your face, that would be scary if that's what it meant but it doesn't so don't be an alarmist please. :)"

@futurebird @neia @BrianJopek No, it IS cryptic. He's talking about how hardcore Christians often don't vote, but how he wants them to come out to make his majority "too big to rig" so he can "fix" voting laws and prevent "fraud". So it's lijely intended as a "once we have fixed voting/stopped the rigging, you people who usually don't like to vote can stay home again".Which is still a narrative entirely build on lies, but not an explicit dictatorial plea

@futurebird @neia @BrianJopek From what I saw he was mainly talking about voter ID with proof of citizenship and same day voting. Functionally that's still voter surpression and an indirect power grab. Just one that is clothed in the narrative of "restoring fair elections" and not "getting rid of them".It doesn't really put Trump in that much of a better light really.

@frog_reborn @futurebird @neia @BrianJopek Fundamentalist white evangelicals - the "hardcore Christians" - have been some of the most reliable voters for a really long time. The "reluctant to vote" right-wing evangelical hasn't been a thing in decades. They walked away from the "stay above the worldly fray" in the 90s and have been punching well above their weight since at least 2006:https://statmodeling.stat.columbia.edu/2019/07/15/voter-turnout-and-vote-choice-of-evangelical-christians/And they've been incredibly energised for him his entire political career. In 2020, the turnout went even higher - up another 20% from what I read. They vote _way_ more reliably than average. And he needs literally every one of them.

@futurebird @Melissabeartrix @BrianJopek Yeah, I’m definitely probably voting for Harris at this rate. I feel like he’s just bonkers at this point, and I wasn’t even for or against him for quite a while. Hell, I still sort of think I’m falling for the Democratic Propaganda, but whether or not I am doesn’t matter, just my vote, and I think my vote will go towards Harris.

@futurebird @neia @BrianJopek I do think it's still a distinction worth making though, because this failed distinction is now used to build up narratives of "why is the mainstream media not immediately reporting on Trump openly admitting to wanting to get rid of elections" which isn't exactly what happened and thus these narratives are not really in service of truthful reporting.

@frog_reborn @neia @BrianJopek I guess? It's helpful to understand how anyone can go along with "the logic" without being a literal cartoon villain laughing like "heh heh heh I will STEAL every election!"... but "voter suppression" is still ugly. Not letting disabled people get help submitting ballots, closing polling sites, throwing people off the roles based on statistical analysis on race ... none of that BS is about preventing fraud. It is kinda evil.

@grumpybozo @BrianJopek I keep hoping that there are a few people who think this is just "normal election nonsense" who might be... struck by one of these statements and the needle might move. More is at stake than election coverage and votes: there is the project of writing history and defining reality. "Vote for me and I'll fix it so you never vote again." is an unAmerican, authoritarian, cynical, ominous thing to say. This is a fact.

@grumpybozo @BrianJopek Trump understands the concept of "the main character" and has been the nation's main character even as another man was president. So, it isn't surprising that he's saying more "surprising" things to get the spotlight back. Right now we are all discussing Harris. Harris is the main focus and the person to talk about. I suspect he hates this.

@grumpybozo @BrianJopek Another thing he said recently was wild not for being extremist, but for the attempt at impersonating a moderate.“I have nothing to do with, and know nothing about, Project 25."“Like some on the right, severe right, came up with this Project 25"Ah yes, "the severe right" which he contrasted with "the radical left" ... like a moderate might do. Dude will say anything. And this comment is also just slipping by.
