Is the muppet "Gonzo" a hemipteran? I always assumed that's what he was! So I called him a "bug" and got in an argument with my husband. Help settle this, please. Please consider the proboscis.

@futurebird The first description of him that I heard was from The Muppet Movie where Kermit says he looks "a little like a turkey" so I always associated him more with a bird than a bug.

@futurebird I'm mostly with you on Gonzo is a hemipteran, but given that piercing-sucking mouthparts have convergently evolved many times in many different groups, I confess I cannot completely rule out alternative phylogenetic hypotheses.

@futurebird maybe the proboscis is to prey on bugs, not be one. Consider the eyes, mouth parts maybe the lack of an exoskeleton.
