What’s all this, then?Oh, I started working on Place¹ this week, it’s a peer-to-peer web-based personal social network and the final piece of the Small Web, alongside Kitten², and Domain³.I just started so there’s lots to do but I got the profile section working yesterday. Today, I’m onto implementing the follow protocol.Just like Domain, Place is, of course, written in Kitten.¹ https://codeberg.org/place/app² https://kitten.small-web.org³ https://codeberg.org/domain/app#SmallWeb #Kitten #Place

@aral Will this be integrated with Mastodon, or is it something else?

@cian It’s something else – a peer to peer web.See: https://ar.al/2024/06/24/small-web-computer-science-colloquium-at-university-of-groningen/Not saying it couldn’t interoperate at some level/point in the future but that’s not part of my current focus as the models are very different (ActivityPub/Mastodon is designed around servers with many “users”, the Small Web is designed for one server = one person, which means we can simplify many things and don’t need a bunch of stuff that’s in ActivityPub.) :)

@fuzzyface Thanks and apologies for the confusion: Yarn and Place are the same thing. I was dithering between the names (it was originally Place and then I thought Yarn might be better – for reasons – but then reverted to Place as I started working on it more).Update the post here to hopefully remove the source of the confusion: https://ar.al/2024/06/24/small-web-computer-science-colloquium-at-university-of-groningen/(As to your other question, I’m aiming for this year 🤞)
