"Is the United States a multi-ethnic, multi-religious country?"In some way picking Biden, was a retreat from the the Obama days. There was a sense among some Democrats that "we can't afford to do that again" And 2016 had a lot to do with it.In 2016 there was Democratic overconfidence. In 2016 many people underestimated the wrath of the people who need the answer to that question to be "NO." And the reactionaries have made a huge mess.Still, you can't retreat forever.

@futurebird it is without a doubt that we underestimated their reaction. But Obama faced that too and won a second term. Another factor is that the GOP simply started cheating more openly. It took time for REDMAP (2010 GOP plan) to start eroding freedoms through the courts. H Clinton still won by millions AND if you take away voter disenfranchisement she would have overcome those 70k votes that cost her the EC.They cheated. They'll cheat this year too. We MUST overwhelm the cheating.

@futurebird >>>Is the US a multi-ethnic, multi-religious country?<<<Well, obviously. How that multi-ness appears to the individual depends on the age of the individual. My generation (boomer) adapted to a vastly different environment than a 20-something does now. Each of us can only imagine the experience of the other.1/4

@futurebird >>>In some ways picking Biden, was a retreat from the Obama days.<<<Yes. I, for one, was rather terrorized at the time. Covid, as well as the riots following the lynching of George Floyd coupled with Trump’s reckless, hate-filled administration of the law had me up against the ropes. Biden’s know-how and wisdom was very soothing. I was overjoyed to vote for him in the 2020 Texas Dem primaries and even more thrilled when he became president.2/4

@futurebird >>>In 2016 there was Democratic overconfidence.<<<I, for one, was not overconfident. I was naive. I thought our system of government was bullet-proof, that a kinder, gentler Hitler could not happen here.In retrospect, it seems we (the all of us) were unprepared. Our core values as a nation were sorely tested and we (the all of us) simply failed.Nevertheless, all is not lost. Not yet.3/4

@futurebird When Bill Clinton ran for Governor of Arkansas, local news industry campaigned against Hillary Clinton. When he ran for president, the whole national news industry jumped in and campaigned against Hillary Clinton.by the time 2016 rolled around, the USA news industry had spent 22 years dishing out blatant hatred and endless lies about Hillary Clinton.A whole generation had grown up, started college, etc, entirely on a diet of anti-Hillary disinformation.
