ugh. it's always a bad sign when you find an odd component on a PCB and google it and the only result is a page of someone else who tore down the same shit

@foone@digipres.cluby my favorite (admittedly hasn't happened in a while) is when the poster is me from the past

@foone I've had this happen a lot more since I started poking around old e-waste to see if there was anything neat and it's SUCH a bummer as a newcomer especially

@foone I love finding threads like that, because I'll literally spend days trying to hunt down the right answer. The best I've managed to date was a thread from 2006 on a random physics website asking about an apparently untitled image used in a book published in the early 80's. By sheer luck I had known the author when I was a teenager. After a month of hunting around, I tracked him down, got the answer, and posted it up. The OP was beside themselves that someone answered them 18 years later.

@foone My favourite was googel searching the BSB custom chips from the ACM and finding a post from someone who'd sadly departed, talking about reverse engineering it. He probably figured it out too!

@foone that reminds me that I really should send you a couple of weird DIP-8 package chips I bought in bulk for which I never really found datasheets. The print is also weird because some characters are printed upside-down? 😅
