Everyone knows about "Born in the USA" famously being a song about what a struggle it is to live in the USA, not some blind patriotic anthem. But "We Take Care of Our Own" is even more like this.Does the Boss write lyrics *designed* to go over conservative heads? Doe is do it *on purpose* ?I also like to point out that "New York, New York" is *also* not pro-NYC anthem. I wonder if the Yankees fans know that? Some of them do, I think.

@futurebird Springsteen writes thoughtful multi-layered lyrics. While I doubt he consciously designs them to go over conservatives heads, thoughtful and multi-layered are not words I associate with conservative thought patterns.

@futurebird Reminds me of the British football fans in the train on the way to the finale in Berlin two weeks ago.Most songs they played were from Freddy Mercury, Elton John or other gay artists. It was just so strange, how they repeated them over and over again, thinking it is 'their' music.I know, music is for everyone. But smiling about that, made the whole situation less stressful.

@michael_w_busch "tried to play Prince"the who tried to play WHAT?Although, I was once at a crabbake out on a boat in City Island and we (The South Bronx Stray Cat Rescue) only rented half the damn boat and the other party was all these Cops. (some NYPD social club) I will never be able to erase the memories of these cops with huge mustaches "meowing" (because they knew we liked cats) and dancing to Public Enemy. (????)There is No God.

@futurebird I think there's a correlation between people who only know the refrains and mumble the rest, and conservative "thinkers".Not paying attention to the details is pretty much a core value.

@michael_w_busch I think what one is supposed to say is that ending up on a boat full of very rowdy, cops telling the dirtiest jokes I've ever heard in my life with your deeply introverted cat rescue friends who just wanted to raise a little money for kitten placement with a quiet boat ride is "part of the charm of NYC"It's part of ... something alright but I do not have the words to describe what it is.
