I did some repair on a dishwasher today. The lid of the detergent dispenser didn't close anymore. There's a plastic latch that has worn out and causes the closing mechanism to slip.In my first attempt, I took a crown cap and cut out a strip of metal that I bent and glued in place in order to recreate the latch. Unfortunately, no matter how I bent or cut it, it would either bend down or slip.1/2#repair

In a final, desperate attempt, I heated up the tip of pliers and scissors using a lighter and tried to form the plastic into shape. It looks terrible, but it has worked effectively and the dishwasher can be used again 🥳2/2#repair

Q: Is this going to hold for a long time?A: No idea, probably not. Next time I will cut out a piece of plastic to add more material to the latch, and try forming it again.

@jomo I fixed my dishwasher which has a plastic part that uses a plastic washer (WHY??) that has probably changed its shape from the thermal stresses. I wrapped the plastic washer with tape in 3 spots to compensate and it's holding together now. The building maintenance "fixed" it for me 3 times now where they just snap it back on and leave and ignore that it falls off 2 minutes into a dishwashing cycle...

Q: Did this take longer than just washing by hand?A: Certainly.
