       @jaffathecake well that was a horrifying read, "elevates user choice", "privacy-preserving alternatives", did they refer to the Chrome user base as a "thriving marketplace"? — I feel a little queasy 🤢

       @jaffathecake this is surprising to me. Did they make the decision as a response to regulators or money earned by ads? The article seems to hint into the former option.

       @jaffathecake It’s hard to parse what this really means for web devs. But it sure seems like Google loves pulling the strings and making us all dance to whatever new stupid legal/privacy-impacting thing they decide to do. I think it only serves to keeps the e-commerce attorneys busy and all we do now is spend our time “changing the google stuff” (GA4, cookie banners and other negative UX elements, etc.) rather than actually doing “web” development anymore.

       @jaffathecake That's sad. It would be interesting to see how many web sites and apps actually tried to migrate from 3rd party cookies. I have a feeling it wouldn't be a huge number.

       @jaffathecake It's amazing to me that people would throw away 4 years of their working life on something that was very obviously pushing up hill the entire time, only to have it swept away. Just big co things 💅
